Umbrella, umbrella (from niderl zonnedek -. Literally, "shelter from the sun") - a device designed to protect people from rain or sunlight. The first is intended umbrellas as protection from the sun, not the rain.  In Russian, the word "umbrella" was borrowed from niderl. zondec - «canopy from the sun on the ship" . Later, the last syllable of "IR" was dropped because of the similarity with the diminutive suffix to form familiar to us the word "umbrella".
